Boulder Reinstates Mask Mandate
Starting today, Friday Sept. 3 at 5 p.m., masks will be required in all public indoor spaces in Boulder County.
On Thursday, Sept. 2, Boulder County Public Health approved Public Health Order 2021-08 mandating the use of masks for all individuals from age two or older.
The Board of Health cited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) data tracking system and their July 27, 2021 recommendation for masks during high transmission periods.
A transmission rate is the analysis the CDC provides for every county in the United States classified by a ranking of low, moderate, substantial and or significant or high transmission.
The tracking system is based on the percentage of positive tests and the number of cases per 100,000 people. Boulder County’s current status is marked as a high transmission period with 445 cases in the period of Aug. 26, 2021 through Sept. 1, 2021.
“We’ve got to take some additional action,” said Boulder county’s board of health president Gregg Thomas as stated by the Daily Camera.
While there are no exemptions based on vaccination status, you are exempt if you cannot wear a mask for medical reasons.
The county mask mandate will not change how the University of Colorado Boulder’s campus is handling the public use of masks as masks have been required indoors at CU Boulder since Aug. 13, 2021.
The University Pandemic Response Office outlined that all individuals must wear a face covering when engaged in classroom instruction, laboratory work, academic advising or other activities in publicly accessible indoor areas on campus.
As of 8:34 a.m. on Sept. 2, CU Boulder’s COVID Dashboard has recorded 170 PCR tests and two positive tests. There have been 46 positive results for on campus testing since August 9, 2021.
