CU Boulder Vaccine Mandate Takes Effect

The University of Colorado Boulder’s deadline to submit vaccine information has come and gone.

The deadline for The University of Colorado Boulder’s students and staff to submit proof of the COVID-19 vaccine requirement was Wednesday, Sept. 15.

According to CU Boulder Today, students that missed the deadline will have a fee assessed and a hold placed on their spring 2021 registration. Employees that have missed the deadline will be subject to disciplinary action that ranges from withholding future merit to termination.

As the vaccine requirement takes effect, students such as CU senior Kelley Kelley are relieved.

“I’m happy they’re doing it,” Kelley said. “It makes me feel better about being in-person.”

As of Wednesday, Sept. 16, the CU COVID dashboard reported 30,764 students out of the 35,897 on campus have completed their reporting requirement with a 95% vaccinated status. In comparison 9,465 CU employees out of 10,204 have completed reporting with 96% vaccinated.

According to Chief Operating Officer Partick O’Rourke, CU officials will continue to reach out to those who have not completed the requirement. As this process takes place there will likely be an increase in the number of both students and employees reporting.

The confirmation of vaccine requirement submissions can take seven to 10 days to process before receiving a confirmation from CU Medical Services.

Between the COVID Dashboard’s reporting week of Sept. 13 to Sept. 17 there have been a recorded 396 PCR tests completed with five positive results.

“Public schools already have vaccine requirements and this is just another step that needs to be taken for safety,” said freshman William Ashcraft.

The newly stated federal COVID vaccine requirements do not include higher education and will have no current change to CU’s current vaccine requirements.

If you are looking for on campus vaccination opportunities, an appointment can be made through MyCUHealth portal or Colorado’s Department of Public Health and Environment’s where to get vaccinated page.
