Want to join The Bold?
Students in the JRNL 3000 Intermediate Reporting class write and report stories that you’ll see published in The Bold. We also accept pieces from students outside of the class, but note, there is no guarantee that your story will be published. Still, you can send it along and if we think it meets our journalism standards and principles, you might get published. Contributors must be full-time students enrolled at CU Boulder.
Want to be an editor?
If you have completed the Intermediate Reporting class and feel confident in your reporting and AP Style writing skills, you can be an editor at The Bold. Journalism students currently enrolled at CU Boulder must first receive permission from the course instructor and then enroll in CMCI 3910 Practicum. Editors receive three units course credit and may also receive compensation.
Who We Are
We are a class of practicing journalism students working to perfect our writing and reporting skills under the guidance of a journalism instructor. We provide student-created content for CU Boulder students and the community.
Contributing to The Bold
We are always looking for content creators to collaborate and provide support to our news publication. If you have a story idea, pitch it to us and we’ll consider it for publication. Contributing writers must be full-time enrolled students at CU Boulder in any major.
Benefits of The Bold
- Getting published is awesome and a great way to build your portfolio of work to show prospective employers.
- Practicing journalism skills requires us to do the job while we’re still in school. Nothing beats the real experience we get writing and reporting stories.
- Finding unique sources and meeting new people.
- Being involved in our community by attending events and meetings.
- Working with student peers to become better at our craft.
- Feeling a sense of responsibility that comes with the journalism profession and role of overseeing those in power.
- Learning our First Amendment rights of a free press and exercising those rights.
Semester Requirements
- Intermediate Reporting class and the CMCI Practicum meet twice a week, but most of your reporting is done outside of that class time.
