Munson Family Farm

Since 1978, Munson Family Farm has been providing all kinds of produce goods and memories for families in the Boulder and Gunbarrel communities. During the fall, the plot of land right off of 75th street features a corn maze, a field of pumpkins, and a produce stand. Throughout the summer they offer in-season produce. The farm is run by Chris and Mike Munson–the sons of Bob Munson–who ran the farm throughout their childhood.

The pumpkin patch is set directly in the middle of the plot with a produce stand that sits off to the side of the pumpkin patch closest to the road, opposite of the corn maze. This pumpkin palace is a welcoming place for all. If you grew up celebrating Halloween, this local farm is sure to ignite nostalgia and put you into the spirit of the spooky season.

Annette Write has known the Munson family for 10 years, and has worked the farm stand their entire friendship. “I have been friends with the Munson family for many years and one year Chris Munson came up to me and asked if I was interested in working at his farm stand,” said Write. “I said yes, as long as it doesn’t interfere with my weekly golf match of course.”

The local staple has been around 40 plus years, and was started when Bob and Marcy Munson moved to Boulder in the 60s. It began as a small stand at the Boulder Farmers market and quickly transitioned to a farm for all at the end of summer through the fall season. Originally a single cornfield, it has developed into a bountiful terrain with multiple crop plots. What started out as a small side business for Bob, turned into quite the family affair.

The stand where Write worked the register had bright green peppers, multi-colored gourds, shiny apples and small orange pumpkins. The array of colors, seemingly added to the fall spirit in the air. Munson Farms opens up to the public in mid-July, and seasonal fruit takes over the stands. Towards the end of the summer, peaches are their biggest attraction.

“It’s been a very successful, well run family farm for years now, by a great family. I always enjoy the turn around from harvesting summer crops to going into fabulous fall. We have a great time here,” said Write

The corn maze is a fun addition to the overall experience of the family farm. Sitting at the west end of the pumpkin patch, it’s the perfect place to go after filling a wheelbarrow full of perfect pumpkins and other produce.

The Munson Family farm provides more than just pumpkins and fresh produce, it brings joy, memories and introduces the season of holiday spirit to people in Colorado.
