With four major sports underway including football, soccer, volleyball, and men’s basketball keeping up with all the Buffs events may be overwhelming.
As classes roll on and the workload piles up, relax knowing this sports guide will assist you in planning around all of Colorado’s most notable sporting events.
Starting this week all the way through the semester, this is the only textbook or studying you will need. You won’t have a midterm, nor a final on it, but it will provide you with a ton of fun as you cheer on your Buffs throughout their season.
The sports guide features important matchups that need the extra crowd and key rival games that could be pivotal in their seasons.
Sept. 11 – Football – CU vs. #5 Texas A&M – 1:30 PM MT
While this big game isn’t in Boulder, all you have to do is hop on the RTD Bus and you’ll hopefully end up at Empower Field in Denver where the Buffaloes take on former Big 12 opponents, Texas A&M. The Aggies finished (9-1) in the shortened 2020 season where they went on and won the Capital One Orange Bowl Game as the #5 seed. This will be Colorado’s first game in Denver facing an out-of-state opponent since Thanksgiving Day, 1912 where the Buffs defeated Oklahoma 14 to 12. The CU fans then celebrated their win with a parade through the streets of Denver, over a hundred years later let’s run it back.
Sept. 16 – Volleyball – CU vs. Colorado State University 7:00 PM MT
Come to the CU Events Center with some vengeance alongside your volleyball team as we plan to get CSU back from a rough 2019 season where CU fell to our little sisters twice. I don’t think anything else needs to be said, CU versus CSU, be there!
Sept. 19 – Soccer – Colorado @ Denver 1:00 PM MT
Join your Colorado Buffaloes in their quest to advance their streak against rival DU to 10 matches unbeaten. The Buffaloes have kept their streak since 2013, so long that I, now a senior in college, was stuck in middle school the last time CU fell. Show up and support our Buffs in keeping their streak alive!
Sept. 30 – Soccer – CU vs. Washington – 3:00 PM MT
Come support your Buffs in a big match at Prentup Field against Pac-12 opponents Washington. Both teams have received top 25 ranking votes with Colorado receiving (13) and Washington (1). This match should prove to be as exciting as promised with both teams gearing up for big years.
Sept. 24 – Volleyball – Colorado vs. #19 Utah – 7:00 PM MT
Since I arrived at CU three years ago, the Buffs have won two and lost four matches against Pac-12 rivals Utah, falling 17 sets to Colorado’s seven. Bring the energy and the noise to help your Buffaloes change the course of this big-time rivalry!
Nov. 6 – Football – Colorado vs. Oregon State – TBD
It’s Sam Noyer’s and CU’s homecoming week! It’s not that I don’t like our former QB who threw for six touchdowns and seven interceptions, I appreciate everything he did for our team, but it’s like seeing your ex, you have to win the breakup. Let’s pack Folsom on his return to Boulder after transferring to OSU and show him what he is missing.
Nov. 18 – Volleyball – Colorado vs. #14 Stanford – TBD
Colorado’s single victory against our Pac-12 rivals on the volleyball court came in 2015, our second win, Nov. 18, 2021. Mark your calendars as the Buffaloes hope to break their (1-22) record against the Trees. Stanford is a top-ranked opponent coming in at 20th in the top 25 rankings.
Nov. 20 – Football – Colorado vs. Washington – TBD
Everyone and their families better be at Folsom Field for the game against the Huskies during family weekend. The Buffaloes take on 20th ranked Washington in what should be a high stakes game. We ended their winning streak at nine last year, let’s start our own now with the support of the fans!
Nov. 24 – Volleyball – Colorado vs. #9 Washington – 1:00 PM MT
In what could be Colorado’s biggest test of the year on the volleyball court, CU takes on the 11th ranked Huskies. Come support your Buffaloes in trying to end their four-game skid against our Pac-12 rivals. What else are you going to do on a Wednesday night!
Nov. 28 – Basketball – Colorado vs. Stanford – TBD
Your Colorado Buffaloes are (8-2) in their last 10 meetings with the Trees and (9-3) at our home court. Make sure we keep the momentum on our Pac-12 rivals by packing the house and showing them how rowdy Boulder can get. Also, stay to watch Tristan Da Silva go to work against his big brother who is one of Stanford’s best players.
Oct. 2 – Football – Colorado vs #14 University of Southern California – TBD
Colorado is (0-13) against USC dating back to 1963. Do I need to say more? Bring everyone and your professors as we need to rewrite our rivalry. We lost 31-35 last year with a safety leading our offense, so with Brendon Lewis at the helm this year, let’s show KD Nixon he made a huge mistake. You don’t leave Boulder for Southern California, it is supposed to be the other way around.
Oct. 16 – Football – Colorado vs. Arizona – TBD
In our last 10 appearances against Arizona on the football field, Colorado has three wins and seven losses. We need everyone at Folsom Field for this matchup against our Pac-12 rivals in order to break this losing spell. CU did win last year in Tucson, but they haven’t won in Boulder since 2011, this is our year. In the Buffs we trust!
Oct. 17 – Soccer – Colorado vs. #11 Stanford- 12:00 PM MT
Your Colorado Buffaloes need all the support they can get at Prentup Field while they take on the top 10 ranked Trees. CU has yet to secure a victory against Stanford throughout nine previous matches dating back to 2007. This could be one of the biggest matches of the season as our Buffaloes’ soccer team is looking like a tough squad to play this year.
Oct. 21 – Soccer – Colorado vs. Oregon – 3:00 PM
Just four days after the Stanford match Colorado will look to take on another Pac-12 rival in Oregon. The Buffs are unbeaten against the Ducks on the pitch since 2015 and will look to keep their streak going with the help of some fans!
Dec. 4 – Basketball – Colorado vs. #19 Tennessee – TBD
The Buffs need all the fan support with this home game against top-ranked opponent Tennessee. In the three previous matches dating back to 1980, the Buffaloes have failed to win a game. Bring the noise and energy to the CU Events Center and hopefully we can rewrite history with our first win against the Vols!
Dec. 21 – Basketball – Colorado vs. #17 Kansas -TBD
The last time Colorado was victorious against the Jayhawks on the basketball court was 2014, when Spencer Dinwiddie scored 15 points to secure a three-point victory over the heavy favorites. As Dinwiddie now plays for the Washington Wizards, CU is still looking to defeat Kansas. Colorado’s career record against Kansas sits at 39 wins and 124 losses, so we do have a mountain in front of us, but this is a good year to start, show up and rock the house!
