CU Boulder to require COVID-19 booster for staff and students

On Tuesday, Jan. 11, the Executive Vice Provost, Ann Shmiesing, and Chief Operating Officer, Patrick O’Rourke, announced a COVID-19 vaccine booster requirement for all staff and students.

Students and faculty are required to submit evidence of their booster shot by Thursday, Feb. 24, more than four weeks after the tentative return to in-person learning. Through the MyCUHealth portal, everyone can submit their evidence or request an exemption for the requirement.

The requirement comes after the University announced they would start the first two weeks of the Spring semester remotely due to rising Omicron variant cases and the effects of the recent Marshall fires in the area. At the moment, they are ensuring students and faculty that the Jan. 24 return to campus will happen, but are adding the booster requirement for the safety of that in-person return.

If you have not received your booster yet, there are many opportunities near Boulder. Students and staff can receive their booster at the Wardenburg Health Center on campus, Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, Safeway, City Market and King Soopers pharmacies in the Boulder area.

Today, in Boulder County, a mobile vaccine clinic will be at the Lafayette Public Library until 4 p.m. with walk up and appointments available.

The letter reported that 92% of CU Boulder’s campus received the original two doses of COVID-19 vaccine. If you have questions about the new requirement and the return to campus, there will be a virtual meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 10 a.m.
