After being down at the end of the first quarter 15-12 and eight costly turnovers, the Buffs’ were able to turn it around. At the start of the second quarter, fifth year Mya Hollingshed hit a 3-pointer tying the game at 15. From there, Colorado left the Orediggers in the dust going on a 14-2 run increasing their lead to 29-17. Colorado’s largest lead came to 26 points in the fourth quarter, as they also forced nine Oredigger turnovers, and only allowed four points in the second quarter.

Eleven different players scored on the night allowing the CU bench to get quality playing time and the ability to display their talents, “I loved that everyone played,” said Head Coach JR Payne. “I thought everyone that came in the game gave tremendous effort. No one was perfect, offensively or defensively, but I thought our effort was really good.”

Junior Jaylyn Sherrod led the Buffs with nine points and two assists. Senior guard Lesila Finau was the second top scorer along with Tayanna Jones both with eight points. Freshman Kindyll Wetta hurdled a new team-high with six rebounds as she also collected four assists and two points.

“I’m proud of our team,” Payne said. “Early in the season, especially this early, there’s going to be some really good things and there’s going to be some really bad things and a whole lot in the middle. I thought we were pretty typical. I thought we had spurts where we did some really good things and transitioned defensively in spurts. We were not so good in spurts as well, but that’s ok. As long as we continue to learn, grow and attack those areas that weren’t as sharp as we wanted.”

The team looks forward to continuing to take care of business on their season opener, Nov. 10, as the Buffs will be heading to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to face off against Big 12 rival, Oklahoma State.
