Reports of suspicious videos were left on CDs and dropped at the doorstep of multiple fraternity and sorority houses at 1:30 a.m. Monday morning. The suspects were caught on video footage. Some of the sorority houses include Chi Omega, Delta Gamma, Tri Delta, Kappa Alpha Theta and Alpha Chi Omega.

Police now believe the people seen taping suspicious envelopes and CD’s to Greek houses were participating in a scavenger hunt-type activity.
According to Boulder police spokeswoman Dionne Waugh, the individuals identified said they were part of a scavenger hunt. The Greek houses had not been informed they would be involved. The individuals will not be charged or arrested.

Speaking with some of the members, they said the CDs contain odd, cryptic messages. There seems to be no apparent pattern with the audio and video content on each CD.

Allegedly, one panhellenic member noted a part of the audio incorporated a phrase from Criminal Minds episode, “Ashes and Dust,” stating ‘The torture of a bad conscience is the hell of a living soul,’ which is about a serial arsonist that targets the homes of upper-middle class families while they sleep. Another CD included randomized numbers spoken by artificial intelligence-based voices. Along with the CD, an envelope contained a letter alluding to $400 “reward.” The context is unknown.

“I’m sure it’s going to be okay, [it’s] so strange though,” a CU Panhellenic member confidentially told The Bold.

The Boulder Police Department and University of Colorado Police Department  do not believe there is any known threat to the individuals or organizations that received the notes.
