Mind the Wind

By Alicia Orr

There is a silence on the wind
Spoken for the people I cannot find
Seemingly I have come unpinned

Abandoned animals have grinned
For no more masters are there to bind
There is a silence on the wind

I am terribly chagrined
With all the sinister thoughts in my
mind Seemingly I have come unpinned

Gone are all those who have sinned
Yet I remain resigned
There is a silence on the wind

Perhaps I shall check downwind
Only to see that everywhere has been left
behind Seemingly I have come unpinned

Time has past now and I have thinned
There are no vestiges of humankind
There is a silence on the wind

Seemingly I have come unpinned

This is a Villanelle I wrote as a weekly prompt for my creative writing elective during our poetry unit. It was a lot of fun crafting the rhyme-scheme. – Alicia Orr
